Jackson Family Lays Michael to Rest Today

After weeks of going back and forth and waiting for toxicology reports and amending death certificates, it looks like poor Michael Jackson will finally be laid to rest tonight. The King of Pop’s body will be buried at a private ceremony, open only to friends and family, at Forest Lake Cemetery in Glendale, CA. Gladys Knight will supposedly perform a song at the funeral, and local police are planning to be out in full force to protect the mourners’ privacy.

MTV reports that Jackson will take his place in the cemetery’s Great Mausoleum, which also houses the remains of Clark Gable, George Burns, Nat King Cole, John Wayne and Walt Disney. The mausoleum is packed with artwork, including copies of Michelangelo’s David and Moses sculptures, as well as “an ornate stained glass rendition of Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper,’ making it a fitting resting place for the singer, who once commissioned for his bedroom a “Last Supper” portrait in which he appeared as Jesus among disciples that include Charlie Chaplin, Albert Einstein, John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, Elvis and Walt Disney.” Huh. And yes, in case you’re wondering — the mausoleum is open to the public (if that’s your kind of tourist attraction) but was closed yesterday to begin preparations for Jackson’s funeral.
